6pm has passed and segment 5 is a wrap with results locked in. Cold temperatures and ice were the story for S5, with a fine line between maximizing speed on the frozen trails and balancing traction on the what became an “ice line” for the segment by week’s end. The shorter distance of this segment kept people pedaling as we had over 240 attempts throughout the week on S5, which is fantastic.
Segment 6 is next up and we’re heading over to Addison Oaks. Amidst the warmer weather earlier this week followed by the freeze that made most trails an ice rink, Addison has faired well with a proper groom and snowshoers helping the trails along. We should be in for a good segment, but pay attention to the weather again this week, as it’s definitely a bit up and down.
