Rulebook

Registration for the series is a two-step process, noted below. Once you join, please do not change your Strava name (it affects our scoring):

1. Register for the Fat Bike Challenge.
2. Once registered, you must join one of the Strava clubs that match your category:

Each week a segment will be announced, which will typically be a single lap at a local trail. A Strava-based route file will also be provided that can be used for turn-by-turn directions.

The segment will be open from Monday - Sunday at 6:00pm and must be uploaded and visible in Strava no later than Sunday at 7:00pm. Strava must capture the segment or the ride won’t be counted for the standings. No exceptions.

A DNF will be awarded if an attempt has been made but the segment wasn’t captured by Strava due to a mechanical or wrong turn. A DNF will be worth 1 point and will be considered a completed segment. Please notify us via email and include the Strava link to your ride attempt.

Pay close attention to the segment start and end location. There will be no adjustments for missed turns or accidently stopping before the segment ends too early. You can ride the segment as many times as you want - your fastest time will be counted.

If it’s determined a shortcut was taken from the Strava route that gave an unfair advantage, the organizers may disqualify that ride.

There will be a total of 8 segments, with a rider's top 6 finishes counting in the final totals. A bonus of 5 points will be added for each segment completed after 6. The following prizes will be awarded, with the details of the awards to be announced prior to the end of the series:

  1. Top finishers in open and sport categories.
  2. Random prizes awarded by a raffle, with each completed segment earning a virtual raffle ticket. Other details may be announced.
  3. All participants who complete all 8 segments will receive a coupon from Cold Stone for a free Ice Cream Cake. The coupon will only be redeemable at the Rochester Hills Cold Stone store.

A fat bike with both tires at a minimum of 3.7-inch is required. No mountain, e-bikes or half-fat bikes. We will use the honor system, but if it is determined that anyone used a non-fat bike, that person will be disqualified from the series.

All segments are self-supported. All riders must wear a helmet that meets CPSC, ANSI and/or Snell (or similar standards).

Male riders may upgrade from sport to open, or downgrade from open to sport by notifying the organizers, although no prior points will be transferred.

All entries are final - there are no refunds. Entries are not transferable.

Be considerate of park rules and other trail users. This is not a race but an incentive to ride your fat bike during the winter.

Marking or modifying the course will result in an immediate disqualification from the series.

In the case of a tie in points within the top three places in any category, the following rules will be used to break the tie:

First tie breaker: rider who started the most segments.
Second tie breaker: winner of the most head to head competitions.
Third tie breaker: whoever had the most points in head to head competitions.
Fourth tie breaker: winner in the most recent head to head competition.

Points are awarded as follows:
