Phew, what a great week of riding. Proud Lake and S4 did not disappoint. In our best winter conditions so far this season, we had smiling faces all week long. Nearly 600 segment runs during the week made for our most popular segment yet. Conditions varied throughout but one thing was constant – we had snowy conditions every day and pure Michigan winter fat biking conditions.
Thank you to Bill Hermann for building and grooming a great segment and Chris Ostberg for his assist on the segment. Also a special thanks to everyone for their common courtesy out on the trail. Lots of great feedback of people watching out for each other, moving over if someone was coming through faster, cheering others on, and just an overall great support system throughout the week for all guys and gals riding, which is exactly why we do this.
Now, S5 may not top S4 but it might come close. This one is bit of an away game with a touch of travel. We’ve gone back and forth about this, but we’re going to give it a go with the weather and roll the dice – and with that, we’re going to Holly Rec’s Wilderness trail for S5. The wilderness name is certainly appropriate here and you’ll find it hard to not smile while either enjoying a lap with the end-game goal of the cake in mind, or bleeding through your eyes trying to put down a fast time. Oh, and there will be some climbing to keep you on your toes.
For parking, there is a small parking lot near the intersection of Grange Hall Rd. and Barron Rd. which has a porta potty at it. You will not want to park at the start of the segment as it’s a road that does not get plowed and you might end up with a stuck vehicle.
Any questions, let us know and good luck!
